"Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." -John Quincy Adams
One of the most exciting moments today was looking at the television screen and watching the percentages slowly add up on CNN and MSNBC and ABCnews... and realize that I counted as one of those hundreds of millions of votes. It was amazing to know that I participated in the most important elections so far in our history!
All day long, it seems like the campus has been buzzing-- everybody was wearing their Obama and McCain pins and most of my friends who didn't vote through absentee ballot were wearing their "I voted today" stickers. There were shuttles running all day to bring students to the polling places.
The only time I felt removed from the election were the two hours I spent at fencing practice. Even when I napped before practice, I could hear the sounds of CNN coming from the common room.
My roommates and I went to the Election Party, which was held in University Commons. There were so many people there, and everyone was eating and watching CNN as the numbers came in. There were cariactures and snacks, and couches as well as tables and chairs for everyone to sit in while we watched the big screen television. They raffled off gift cards and cardboard cutouts of the candidates from FYE. There was a lot of people there, students and faculty and staff alike, and the atmosphere was great-- people were having a good time, but talking about politics and the different candidates at the same time.
So now we'll have a new president!!!
This makes me even more excited to attend the Presidential Inauguration in January (which I'll be attending with SHU). :)
