"He who would travel happily must travel light." -Antoine de Saint-Exupery
That's what I'll be keeping in mind tomorrow night as I pack my bags for Columbus, Ohio! I know I haven't updated in a while, but that's because I've been sooo busy between the end of the fencing season and the playoff season for pep band-- I feel like basketball and hockey has taken over my life (Not that it's a bad thing though... I've really come to enjoy spectator sports)!
So I spent my spring break and 21st birthday here at Sacred Heart. It wasn't that bad, because a lot of my friends were still here since they're in pep band too, or because they live nearby. Since the men's basketball team lost to Mount St. Mary's in the semifinals, I was able to go home for a few days and visit with family and friends.
I came back to campus on Sunday morning, ready for the women's basketball NEC Championship game. It was a fast-paced game, and while it seemed like sometimes St. Francis was really closing the lead, the Pioneers kept the game and won the title. Right now, they hold a 21-game winning streak.
On Monday night, the basketball team, cheerleaders, dance team, pep band, and some students and staff gathered in the Pitt Center to watch the ESPN Selection Show. We found out Sacred Heart's place on the bracket, seeded 14th in the Berkeley Region against Ohio State. It's been a long couple of days as the staff has scrambled to finalize our travel plans. Here is my schedule for the weekend as of today:
Thursday, March 19
8:00 PM NCAA Pep Band Rehearsal in Room A
Friday, March 20
4:00 AM Load Coach Bus
4:30 AM Depart SHU for Laguardia
8:45 AM Depart via Delta Flight
10:45 AM Arrive Columbus, OH
Remainder of the day TBD
12:00 AM Curfew for Band, Dance, and Cheer.
Saturday, March 21

2:00 PM In seats ready for Game 1
2:30 PM NCAA Game 1 – SHU v. Ohio

12:00 AM Dance and Cheer Curfew
1:00 AM Band Curfew.
Our travel plans for Sunday still have yet to be determined. As you can see, I have a busy weekend ahead of me! One of the biggest setbacks about travelling is not having time for schoolwork. I need to make sure that I have all of my homework and reading for my Monday and Tuesday classes done before I leave Friday morning. It requires a lot of planning ahead, and I'm lucky that I don't have classes on Friday because otherwise, I would be missing them! Which means that I should probably stop procrastinating, and start my Shakespeare homework (This week, I'm tackling Macbeth!) and revise my draft for my Advanced Composition class. Responsibility awaits!
While I'm off doing my homework, check out a few pictures from the championship game. We play in Columbus on Saturday, March 21st, so look for coverage on ESPN and check back here for more pictures and updates!
Here's the view of the crowd from my seat in the pep band stands... this was the biggest crowd the Pitt Center has EVER seen for the women's basketball team.
I wasn't in the best spot for pictures--- here was the team huddle after winning the NEC title... but you can see the trophy on the floor next to Kaitlin Sowinski and Lindsey Greenlee, and you can see the cameraman and photographers fighting for their perfect shots!
