I have been neglecting my blog lately but life has gone on. I have no excuses except for the fact that I have been extremely busy from the moment I arrive at the my office in the morning until the time I leave and haven’t felt particularly inspired to blog. For some reason this morning, I feel a bit inspired. The sun is shining which is something we have not seen a lot of these days and it just seems to be developing into a great day. So, to catch up on things in the Occupational Therapy Program. Another class walked in the commencement in May which was a memorable and happy day. They are on their final Level 2 fieldwork and all is going well with that group. They completed their capstone projects and were pinned and are on their way out into the working world. (see picture) Congrats -- I know you will be successful. When we were completing our last report ACOTE report, we realized we have a 91% success rate, meaning that 91% of the students who start the Occupational Therapy program at Sacred Heart University graduate with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree. Not bad and I don’t mind bragging over that fact because our faculty and staff are very dedicated and care about every one of our students! Our first year students are getting ready for their first Level 2 fieldwork experience to begin in September. They will finish classes at the end of July and actually get the month of August off from class. A break well deserved and earned. Many have travel plans – enjoy!
I am in the process of accumulating paperwork (getting the ducks in a row) again for the new class arriving in September to begin the cycle again. I am also involved in a big research project which I will fill you in on later. I am answering a lot of inquiries and talking with a lot of potential applicants about the program which is always fun. So, things have been a bit crazy…but as a side note, we managed to get away to Key West in May and it was one of our best family vacations as it was relaxing and fun and just a chance to hang out with each other. It is amazing how regenerated one feels after a change in scenery. We have opened up things in Rhode Island and stayed there over the 4th of July and we will go back weekends and probably in August. Hopefully, the weather will improve but I am thinking it is going to be a short summer this year (if we get anything at all). On the upside, I have managed to get more reading done than normal and inside projects completed. Life goes on.
