Explain this one to me. Who in their right mind would give up 2 days off from school to work as an intern???? If I was asked that question a year or 2 ago, my exact response would have been, "Are you crazy! Sleeping late is much better than being stuck in a cubical all day!" This year, however, I realized how great of an opportunity it is to be able to intern while in school.
Last week I began my internship at a terrific marketing company in Wilton, Connecticut. I had previously been employed with that company this summer as a marketing intern, but this time around I entered into the finance department. Although it is definitely a different pace then I had gotten use to over the summer, I have learned to love the company that much more by being able to experience a different facet of the organization.
While being there these past 2 weeks, I have learned so much about how a finance department operates, what expense reports actually mean and how important it is to be ORGANIZED! lol. All of that knowledge is so valuable to me, considering I never knew what a career in finance might entail. I had spent 3 years reading textbook upon textbook about balance sheets, stocks, revenue, rate of return, etc., all without really knowing how to use or implement that information.
As if gaining knowledge and experience wasn't enough, my internship this semester allowed me to surpass taking a class based on financial derivatives. Talk about boring! With that in mind, I have never been so happy to say that I'm missing out on sleep in order to work!
