The Ryan-Matura Library is currently slated for substantial renovation of the library's main floor during the summer of 2011. Later renovations of the lower floor and the upper floor are also under consideration.
The new main floor will have more, substantially improved student seating, a coffee bar area, more group studies, better lighting, and more comfortable seating.
Consequently the library will have to vacate the main floor by May 2o --library staff are busy planning how to maintain library services even now. Several changes will be coming to the lower library floor in the next few months:
Temporary office spaces will be created in the area of the group tables in the northwest corner of the lower floor;
Wiring will be installed in the individual studies and along the east wall (bordering the Schine Auditorium);
Shelving will be re-arranged in several areas to accomodate the temporary service spaces and work spaces the library will need during the coming summer.
More updates on library renovation plans and other news will be posted here in coming week.
The new semester is just around the corner. Classes start on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 and to be honest, I don't know where the summer went. I had so many projects and plans for this summer semester, but unfortunately, not all of them were completed.
One new change you will find is that the circulating books R - Z have been moved to the lower level of the library. This will allow for more room in the upper level stacks. We have also begun shifting the books in the upper level stacks so that they are easier to access. This project is half way complete and will continue into the fall semester.
We are always thinking of ways to improve service for our patrons so if you can think of things that we can do to serve you better, please let us know.
In the meantime, enjoy this last week of summer vacation and see you in a week!
