My brother arrived early on Monday morning and made his way to my apartment. Thank you Verizon for not really working in Italy and sending my parents messages that we have "incurred hundreds of dollars in fines." The most annoying thing about being abroad is that phones cost an arm and a leg here. Yes, it would be wonderful if we all did not have to carry a phone around with us. Sadly, this is no longer an option. Due to changes in society, we are all becoming extremely dependent on our cellphones. It would be very nice to not have to carry one around with me, but that is clearly not an option being a girl in this city.
I have certainly been blessed to have so many of my family members come and visit. Matthew was my last visitor. This brings both joy and tears, because his arrival in Rome means that I will be leaving shortly. Matthew thankfully booked a hotel with a big enough bed for me to nap in :). It was the best present ever. My feet FINALLY were not hanging off of a bed. Writing this makes me miss my bed at home even more.
This week was filled with exploring, eating, and yes, vino :). We FINALLY made it to La Boticella. This is the ONLY Steelers bar in Italy. If you do not know, I am a Buffalo Bills fan, but many of my best friends are Steelers fans, so I made due. This bar was recommended to me by a friend from back home. He was 100% right; it is a home away from home. I should have listened earlier and went to the bar in September.
Our friend from Rochester happened to be coming to Rome for the weekend, so we spent some quality time together. I never realized how many people I would run into from my hometown while studying abroad!
