As many of you may know, Thanksgiving is not celebrated in Italy. Therefore, I had to sit through class while all of my friends at home were off celebrating. Thanksgiving happens to be my favorite holiday, and I was quite sad that I would be missing it this year. Thankfully the school held a dinner, and I had turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes and stuffing. However, this dinner did not live up to my usual Grosodonia/Mirabella standards. There was NO homemade pasta and there was NO loosening of the belt. I left our school dinner with too many glasses of red wine and not enough turkey. This being said, only one thing was left to do: go out and fill the void that was left in my belly from Thanksgiving dinner. Off towards Trastevere I went with a friend who I shared Thanksgiving dinner with. Drinks were had and an AMAZING 3 euro panini was digested.
Little did I know what was in store for Thanksgiving round 2.
My friend Lauren invited me to her apartment for their version of Thanksgiving. Let me tell you, I ate my little heart out, had the "itus" and passed out for a wonderful post turkey dinner nap. After all of us finally woke up, we went out to a famous disco in Rome : Gilda. It was not one of my favorite places, but it certainly was an experience. Something I can not write about, it just has to be seen first hand.
The rest of this weekend entailed 5 am mornings and lots and LOTS of rain. All-in-all, I would have to say that my Italian version of Thanksgiving was "pretty, pretty, pretty good" (insert my brother Joseph's version of this saying).
(this is not even half of the food that was later put onto the table, we were all too busy fighting over it, so no picture was taken)
Watching my friend Adam Jack debone this turkey and everyone enjoying a meal together were the highlights of my holiday.
Clearly I do not mess around when it comes to food.
Lots of assignments are starting to pile up, and I had my brother Matthew to enjoy on Monday!
Recap of the week: Monday: disaster night with the Roomies
Tuesday: Stayed in and Slept (or should I say tried to sleep)
Wednesday: La Masion
Thursday: Thanksgiving festivities
Friday: Thanksgiving round 2 and GILDA
Saturday: Babel
Sunday: Buffalo Bills football in my bed. ( Many of you know the outcome of this game. ugh.)
Wow, the celebration might have come as a surprise for you. Nice photos! By the way, if you're thinking of having internship in other countries, you should try internship in China. Thanks and good luck!
