YESTERDAY WAS THE DAY!
After a long day of traveling, I am finally in Rome!
Packing was not as strenuous as I thought it was going to be, and I surprisingly remembered all my documents that I needed! After a bunch of goodbyes with family and friends, and a goodbye to Summer 2013, I was ready to go!
I woke up to a pleathra of last minute things to do only to return back home and see ma decorated the house!
It was very cute and got me even more excited for Rome!
We left for the Philly airport at 12:00 pm. to meet up with my friend Katie and grab lunch with our families before we took off. Little did we know how long the wait for the flight would actually be. We went through security after a misty goodbye with my parents and my cousin Loretta (thank you for coming Loretta!!) that's when it hit Katie and I that we were on our own. That was a scary and new feeling, being away from our families for so long, and not only being 2 hours away in Connecticut. Now we had to find our gate and board our flight.
We sat down, antsy to board, and that's when we got the news that our flight was going to be delayed. They needed to fix a tire and we were delayed for about 3 hours. As frustrating as this was, I was glad they were taking the time to make sure everything was ok on the plane as I am already a very nervous flyer. We took off at about 9:00 and started our 8 hour adventure to Rome! The flight surprisingly passed quickly with US Airways offering free movies and tv shows and a GPS tracker to show where we were in the air (I had never seen that before so I mostly watched that. It was so cool!!)
We finally arrived to Rome after a long flight where we were picked up in the Hilton Hotel by John Cabot. Everyone was so nice and friendly! Unfortunately for us, they took our ID pictures right after the flight so I finally now have a picture worse than my SHU card! We met up with our friends from SHU and little did we know, we were actually put in the SHU suite here! Our suite is with 8 girls and is absolutely beautiful! I'll post pictures of it later. The view from it, is so great!
Yesterday, everyone was excited to meet new people and go explore but we were just too tired to do that much. We hadn't slept or eaten for like a day now, so Katie and I went and grabbed dinner at this cute little place called "Taverna delle Scalle." It was great, we split a little pizza and there were people playing the very typical italian music outside, a perfect start to our time in Rome!
They, I think, forgot we were from America because the waiters spoke a couple sentences in italian to us in passing and I could actually understand and respond! That was a really cool feeling!
Our neighborhood is so cute with all the cobblestone streets. There are a couple bars, gelato shops, and restaurants all in walking distance of our apartments.
We didn't explore too much, so we are off to do that today!
Something really cool that my mom mentioned this morning is that my whole family is in a different place. My dad is in Colorado, my sister Tara is back in Connecticut at SHU, my brother Danny is in NYC, my mom is in NJ, and I am in Rome! Sorry guys, I think I got the better end of this deal. :p
I definitely miss my family and friends back in the US but can't wait to start this adventure in Rome.
A più tardi!
