New McMahon building at SHU celebrated, but not by everyone

Sacred Heart University held a grand opening for the new Linda E. McMahon Commons building recently. Everyone from faculty to staff to coaching staffs and students gathered to see what the new building had to offer.  But there were also people who felt that the naming for the new building stood for the wrong thing.

Occupational Therapy offers a meaningful and fun career choice

23 year old Stacy Desrouilleres, a recent graduate of Sacred Heart University, has been looking for a career that matches her fun spirit and easy going attitude. Between combining her studies and her love for dancing, Stacy wanted a career that showcases both fun and hard work. Getting ready to apply to grad school, she searched to find a career most enjoyable, and found Occupational Therapy.  According to the U.S. Dept of Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Therapy is an upcoming and popular growing field today. Unlike other therapies that only offer counseling or only physical restoration, Occupational Therapy offers a unique style that is much more fun.

Studying abroad not a popular option at SHU

There are very few students at Sacred Heart University who choose to study abroad. According to the Institute of International Education study abroad participation in America has more than tripled in the past two decades, but with such a small program and uninterested students, Sacred Heart does not seem to be part of this statistic.

Shaving heads on "St. Baldrick's Day" raises money for child cancer

Three New York City executives were looking for a new way to raise money for child cancer research. They combined the words “bald" and "St. Patrick,” and came up with "St. Baldrick's Day," an event that's raised millions of dollars every year since its inception. St. Baldrick’s Day is now an international non-profit organization that continues to grow each year.

Personal feelings turn into public poetry at open mic night
