Hi All
My name is Heidi and I am a Super Senior here at SHU in the coming Fall. I will be starting my fifth year at Sacred Heart.
I came from Trinidad some four years ago with my sister and having been living in Connecticut ever since. I have a double major in Social Work and Spanish and in May of this year, I walked during Commencement with my Social Work class(since I completed all the credits needed for that major).
While at Sacred Heart, I have been in a few clubs and extracurricular activities. During my time in the International Club, I started as a regular member and was Secretary, President and President Advisor over the course of 3 yrs. I was also the Treasurer of UMOJA and served as a liaison between the Commuter Council and the multicultural clubs. I was also a member of the Social Work Student Organization. For brief periods I was also in the Ballroom Dance Club, the Criminal Justice club (my sister is a Criminal Justice major), Knit Wits and HUGS (back when it was called the GSA).
I was also an International/ Far Away orientation leader for incoming freshman for 2 years in a row and along the way; I informally adopted some friends as younger brothers and sisters and was adopted by two non- traditional students who have been my surrogate mothers. Once you throw in 3 semesters of internships for Social Work and part time jobs and my college experience has been interesting so far at least in my opinion .
My sister and I are going to be in Seville together which should be interesting, after going to the same university (different majors thankfully) taking classes together and going to Ireland together we know our boundaries with each other so we will be in the same residencia but not sharing a room.
Some might say that I am a mini expert at the Study Abroad Experience. I have been to
Granada, Spain in the Summer of 2006 and Dingle, Ireland during Spring break 2008 and now Seville, Spain for a Semester. I love the concept of study abroad. It’s a great opportunity to visit a country and get a class or 2 out of the way. It isn’t exactly like a vacation but the work load tends to be different from being in regular classes.
If you have any questions in relation to study abroad, don’t hesitate to ask. . Comments are always welcome and appreciated.
