According to the groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, we will see another six weeks of winter, so refrain from packing away your gloves and hats just yet, because it looks like we are in store for some more blustery days.
Last weekend students and professors participated in the two-day Global Game Jam at the Ferguson Library in Stamford. Participants took part in creating video games with varying themes, all under the instruction of our own game design professor, Bob McCloud. Awards were given out in several categories—some to our students and faculty—including best game in the contest. Congratulations to everyone involved.
We formally welcomed our newest members of the interfaith community to campus on Wednesday in University Commons. Rabbi Marcelo Kormis, Imam Gazmend Aga and Mark Block received a warm welcome during the meet-n-greet colloquium. The three expressed their excitement about engaging the entire SHU community in open religious dialogue. We look forward to working with them.
Roger Haight, scholar-in-residence at the Union Theological Seminary in New York, visited us on Wednesday as part of the Contemporary Catholic Conversations series. Roger talked to guests at University Commons about evolution and creation theology.
Later on Wednesday, actor Josh Peck entertained students at the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts. The celebrity known for his role in the hit Nickelodeon TV show Drake & Josh sat down with Student Events Team Entertainment Chair Anthony Smith for an interview. He told stories about his career and stardom. The filled-to-capacity crowd was excited to see Josh and ask him questions.

Remember to bring canned canned food items to the Campus Ministry office or to the 5 p.m. Mass on Sunday as part of the annual “Souper” Bowl Can Collection.
Last night was Pack the Pitt and as usual, it was well attended by excited students full of school spirit and wearing Pioneer red. The men’s basketball team played to a tough loss against LIU Brooklyn. Student Government launched its SHU Hunger Project, an initiative to combat hunger in the local area. Keep an eye out for more details on this important campaign.
Tonight, our men’s volleyball team faces Belmont Abbey at 7. On Saturday, our women’s basketball team plays Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) at 1 and the men’s basketball team battles CCSU at 3:30. Our men’s hockey team presents Greek Night at its game against Robert Morris at 2 at the Webster Bank Arena on Saturday. Money, prizes and games will be given out during intermission.
