In three short weeks, students will arrive on campus to move into their residence halls. Until then, I will continue to miss them and our bustling campus. See what I have been up to in this video.
One of my favorite summer traditions is reading to our Horizons at SHU students. Last week, because of the extreme heat, we all gathered inside the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts. Two students read the book Imagine by Juan Felipe Herrera to their peers in the audience. I hope everyone enjoyed the inspirational story.
The last of seven Summer Send-Off receptions hosted around the region by the Parent Council to welcome and congratulate the class of 2023 and their families took place last Tuesday evening. Tony and Laura Giannone, parents of Gabriella ’19, brought together a great group of incoming Pioneers from across the state at their home in West Hartford. To see photos of all of this summer’s welcome receptions, please visit the photo albums found here.
Alumni Summer Series events wrapped up on Long Island and in Stamford last week. Pioneers enjoyed an evening of networking and catching up at That Meetball Place in Farmingdale, NY, and a night of music and fun at Alive@5 in Stamford for the Pop 2000 Tour concert. Thanks to all of the alumni who came out for the events, and we look forward to seeing you back on campus for Homecoming in October.
Members of the Fairfield County Alumni Chapter and our women’s basketball team volunteered in Redding at mile 14 of the 15th annual CT Challenge bike ride on Saturday. We are proud of how TeamSHU came together as donors, riders and volunteers to raise awareness for important cancer survivor programs.
On Sunday, SHU alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends spent the afternoon at Citi Field as the Mets faced the Pittsburgh Pirates. Despite the warm temperatures, everyone had a great time, and the Mets were able to bring home a win.
WSHU hosted David Brooks at the Edgerton Center on Tuesday. The best-selling author, commentator and columnist talked about his latest book The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life. All attendees received a copy. We were thrilled to have him.
Have a great weekend!
